Geoffrey McQueen, Executive Director

Co-founder and Executive Director, Geoffrey McQueen received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989, and a J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1992. Mr. McQueen practiced law in California from 1992 until moving to Colorado in 2004. Soon thereafter, Mr. McQueen served as a Trustee for the town of Severance, Colorado. Mr. McQueen has been involved in the student performance travel and event business since 1995. He is also the co-founder and Executive Director of Harmony Tours, which focuses on performance group tours for bands, orchestras, and choirs. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Student Youth Travel Association, a nonprofit organization that promotes and provides travel experiences for students, which enhances their social, cultural, and educational growth.

In 2009, Mr. McQueen and Christopher Scott Olin co-founded Choirs of America (COA). COA’s mission is “to engage, inspire and educate choirs across the country.” Since its founding, COA has organized and directed choral music education programs for thousands of students from numerous states with events in major cities around the United States. Mr. McQueen and Mr. Olin created COA’s festival programs with the goals of significantly increasing the quality of choral music education, supporting new music commissions, and fostering an appreciation of and support for choral music.

Mr. McQueen is an ardent supporter of accessibility to art and choral music events and education for underserved communities. He has offered financial aid to choir directors in these communities, which enabled choir students to participate in COA events. He also collaborated with COA’s Artistic Director to commission new music from emerging composers for premier performances.

Mr. McQueen’s hope is to continue to transform choral music education with events held at signature venues that engage students, world-class conductors, clinicians, adjudicators and workshop presenters. On April 13, 2013, more than 950 choral students from 13 states rehearsed and performed in Carnegie Hall during the inaugural COA Nationals for Top Choirs event in New York City. Mr. McQueen’s expectation is that COA events will continue to grow and inspire, educate and engage more choir students each year, thus building support for choral music in the future.
